Benedictine Sisters Celebrate Centennial Year Closing
in Boerne
December 4, 2011
December 7, 2011 marked the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Boerne Benedictine Sisters. They concluded their yearlong Centennial Celebration with a closing Liturgy and reception on Sunday, December 4, 2011 in Boerne at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and Community Center. Over 225 family members, friends, Oblates, former Sisters, alumni, benefactors, and Religious joined the Sisters at the closing event. Bishop John Yanta celebrated the Eucharist, and Msgr. James Henke, Fr. Anthony Cummins, and Msgr. Albert Hubertus concelebrated with him. The reception, catered by Hungry Horse Restaurant of Boerne, provided a variety of delicious foods to warm guests while they enjoyed visiting with the Sisters, seeing Benedictine memorabilia, and viewing the newly completed Centennial DVD.
Reunion with Former Sisters
September 3, 2011
To continue celebrating our Centennial Year, we invited women who once were in our community to come together for a reunion. The day was spent sharing a meal, viewing our Centennial video, touring the monastery grounds and sharing Eucharist. The most significant part of the day was remembering what we did in the past and the stories we shared of where we are now. The Sisters’ gathering space was filled with pictures and when we looked at them we found ourselves saying, “That can’t be me, oh look at my hair, I have no wrinkles!” Everyone left with gratitude for the time spent together.
Evening of Blessings
April 3, 2011
An Evening of Blessings was held at the Omega Retreat Center on Sunday, April 3, 2011. The event, part of the Sisters' Centennial Year of Celebration, began with Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller blessing the newly completed St. Francis of Assisi outdoor chapel, followed by Mass concelebrated by the Archbishop and Monsignor James Henke. The Archbishop then blessed the newest retreat facility on the grounds, Lidwina's Dwelling, a house of prayer designed especially for private retreats and named in honor of the Foundress of the Sisters' Community.
6th Annual Feast of St. Benedict Spaghetti Dinner
and Silent Auction
6th Annual Feast of St. Benedict Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction was enjoyed by over 600 people on March 23, 2011 at Benedict Hall on the Sisters' grounds. Guests enjoyed delicious spaghetti, lively accordion music, and a large silent auction. Many volunteers joined the Sisters and staff and made sure the evening ran smoothly and that guests were treated with Benedictine hospitality. The generous donors that gave items for the dinner, door prizes, and the silent auction also ensured that the event was a great success. Thanks to everyone who helped the Spaghetti Dinner continue to be a highlight of the year!
